GOLD INVESTMENT
Professionals and Executives Program
Established in 2007, Gold Investment Management is an independent, registered portfolio manager serving clients in Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia. Gold Investment Management also serves clients in the United States, where we are registered as an investment adviser with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The Professionals and Executives Program brings a disciplined, evidence-based approach to people with demanding careers and complex financial lives. As a discretionary manager bound by a fiduciary duty, we take responsibility for the day-to-day decisions in your portfolio — guided by your objectives, risk tolerance, time horizon, and circumstances — so you can focus on your career, your business, and your life.
Who We Serve
We work with clients at every stage of their career and wealth journey:
- Early-career professionals — building strong habits and a tax-efficient foundation as income and savings begin to grow.
- Mid-career builders — balancing competing priorities: family, property, education, and accelerating retirement savings.
- Senior executives — managing equity compensation, deferred income, concentrated positions, and complex tax exposure.
- Pre- and post-retirement — converting a career’s worth of savings into durable, tax-efficient income that lasts.
- Founders and entrepreneurs — from early-stage builders to those who have realized significant liquidity and are now stewarding lasting wealth.
Our Guiding Principles
Integrity
We are proud to employ Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA) and Chartered Investment Managers (CIM) to act, always, in your best interest — providing independent advice, free of bias.
Discipline
We begin with an Investment Policy Statement, then make deliberate decisions on asset allocation, sector selection and credit cycle, and apply tactical adjustments to manage volatility and restore balance.
Results
We employ a disciplined, tax-efficient approach in pursuit of competitive, repeatable results.
A Three-Part Approach
Investment Management
We construct and manage your portfolio on a discretionary basis, measuring your capacity and tolerance for risk and selecting a suitable asset mix using low-cost, tax-efficient ETFs — and direct equity and fixed income instruments if account size permits. Holdings are monitored continuously and rebalanced as markets move, keeping your portfolio aligned with the strategy set out in your Investment Policy Statement. Our discipline is simple and repeatable: a low-cost focus, a systematic process, and evidence-based decisions.
Comprehensive Financial Planning
Planning means understanding where you are, where you want to be, and how to get there. We provide a financial plan together with the ongoing accountability to keep you on track — and when circumstances change, we adjust the plan with you.
Client
Education
The better our clients understand their plan, the better the decisions they make. Our portfolio managers keep clients informed through a quarterly investment letter, regular market commentary, and direct conversation — holding ourselves to the same standard of staying current that our clients meet every day in their own fields.
Fees & Minimums
Working Together:
Our fee is transparent and based on a percentage of the assets we manage — disclosed in full on your statements, with no commissions tied to buying or selling. Your assets are held in a separately managed account at arm’s length with our preferred custodian, Aviso Financial, for an additional layer of protection. New relationships begin at a minimum of $100,000 in investable household assets; because we work at the household level, family members early in their careers can participate within the broader relationship. Whether your wealth is just beginning to build or already substantial, our standard of care is the same.
Our Process
Getting Started
Exploratory
First Meeting
( Approx 45 Min )- A high-level, exploratory conversation. We learn about your situation, needs, and objectives, and we walk you through GIM’s service offering. Following the meeting, you are directed to GIM’s secure “Welcome” app to upload your comprehensive financial information.
Onboarding Call
Second Meeting
( Approx 45 Min )- We review everything you’ve provided and complete your Know-Your-Client (“KYC”) Information Form together — covering risk capacity, risk tolerance, investment objectives, time horizon, and any unique circumstances, as well as liquidity requirements such as recurring contributions (PAC) or withdrawals (SWP). We present our portfolio recommendations, review the process, and answer your questions. You are then provided with GIM’s Investment Management Agreement (“IMA”), Investment Policy Statement (“IPS”), and custodian new account forms (“NAFs”).
Comprehensive Financial Plan
Third Meeting
( Approx 60 Min, optional )- An optional, in-depth session dedicated to building your comprehensive financial plan and assessing potential insurance needs.
Why Work With GIM?
GIM is independent and aligned with our clients. We are different from bank “advisors” whose role is to sell banking and investment products rather than to provide genuine counsel. We do not sell proprietary or third-party products — in fact, we are not in the business of selling you anything. Instead, we offer bespoke advice and discretionary management bound by a fiduciary duty. Guiding professionals and executives toward a secure and prosperous future is what we do, and it is why we created the GIM Professionals and Executives Program.
Ongoing Reviews & Reporting
Your plan is not a one-time exercise. You receive quarterly portfolio statements and an annual Know-Your-Client review to discuss results and any change in your circumstances, with additional reviews whenever life warrants. Between reviews we keep you informed through our quarterly investment letter and market commentary – and you are always welcome to reach out. We manage the relationship from the day you join through retirement and into the next generation.
